Kirby Moor School Support Assistant named Finalist in Young Employee of the Year Award 2026

We are delighted to share that Sophie Surtees , Learning Support Assistant at our Kirby Moor School, has been named a finalist in the Rotary Club of Hexham Young Employee of the Year Award 2026!🏆

Deputy Headteacher, Fay Tinnion, nominated Sophie after she received many positive comments from the staff team. Sophie was nominated in recognition of her exceptional commitment and the positive impact she makes every day supporting children and young people with special educational needs.

Working in a highly demanding environment, she supports pupils both one-to-one and in small groups, helping them engage with learning and build essential life skills. She is known for her patience, empathy and calm approach, building strong, supportive relationships with pupils.

Colleagues have highlighted Sophie’s dedication and willingness to go above and beyond. Whether it’s supporting across different areas of the school, helping colleagues, or giving up her own time to ensure pupils are supported, Sophie consistently demonstrates professionalism, positivity and resilience.

Being selected as a finalist is a fantastic achievement and reflects the difference Sophie makes to both our pupils and her colleagues.👏
